Respawn Entertainment worked for 10 months on Titanfall 3 before the project was canceled so they could focus on Apex Legends, according to a former developer who worked for the studio.

Former Titanfall and Call of Duty designer Mohamed Alavi told The Burnettwork that the game was in the works before Respawn canceled it.

“I came out with Titanfall 2, I did what I did, and we were like, ‘Okay, let’s make Titanfall 3,’” Alavi said. “We worked on Titanfall 3 for 10 months. We had the technology for that and many tasks were being done. But let me be clear, it has been getting progressively better [que o antecessor]It was nothing revolutionary.”

Alavi said the team was having trouble making multiplayer accessible, and the meteoric rise of the battle royale genre made Respawn decide to jump into the genre, which led to the creation of Apex Legends.

“We came back from the break and talked about it, and thought we needed to turn in another direction,” said Alavi. “We literally scrapped Titanfall 3 because we thought we could make this game and Titanfall 2 would be just a little bit better, or we could make something obviously great.”

Respawn’s decision resulted in the creation of one of the most popular games in the battle royale genre, as Apex Legends has maintained its success since its release.

Respawn founder Vince Zampella told the site in April Barron He isn’t opposed to the idea of making a Titanfall 3 at any point, but said the game would have to be “the right thing” before the studio would commit to it. “It’s a franchise that’s so beloved by fans as well as by us. If it wasn’t for the right time, and the right idea, it wouldn’t make sense.”
