Fool's Theory studio is working on a remake of “The Witcher,” the first game based on the works of Andrzej Sapkowski. The title was announced in 2022, and not much information has been revealed yet. But a recent interview with Fool's Theory CEO Jakub Rokosz provided behind-the-scenes insights into the game's production.
Rokosch is a veteran of CD Projekt RED, having worked directly on “The Witcher 2” and “The Witcher 3.” In an interview with the magazine His edge He revealed that he was always disappointed that he didn't work on the first game in the trilogy. The studio head also stated that he would have the opportunity to treat the project with the justice it deserves.
Now that he's finally able to work on the story that launched in 2007, the CEO has confirmed that parts deemed “bad” and “outdated” can be removed or remade in the game. However, the essence of the story should remain the same, as excerpts that are considered really good will be preserved.
Currently, the team is conducting a detailed analysis of the entire history of the game to determine what is not working well. From there, you need to decide whether you want to reformat it or remove it.
One of the things that should be cut from the game are cards depicting the various lovers that Geralt may have throughout the game. It was considered quite sexist, and even its creators regretted adding the mechanics – which are of no use to advancing the narrative.
Although it is the game that marks the beginning of a very popular series and is remembered fondly by fans of the series, the next two games – especially the third – stand out even more in terms of quality. For this reason, in addition to narrative and graphical adjustments, the gameplay should receive special attention from the developers.
One of the most important changes is that the form of linear narrative must be abandoned entirely by the lie theory. The idea is to adopt an open-world RPG model to engage players, especially fans of “The Withcer 3: Wild Hunt,” who spent many hours of fun in side quests, searching for treasure, or just exploring the vast map.
