The Association for Heart Failure Patients Support (AADIC) will hold an online session on 7 February, starting at 9pm, on the topic “Heart failure in Portugal – how many do we have?”, where the results of the session will be presented. The Porthos-2023 study and what to do with the collected data will be discussed. This webinar features the participation of Cristina Gavina, MD, a cardiologist and PORTHOS study investigator, and Nuno Jacinto, MD, a FGM specialist at USF Salus, and testimony from one patient. Moderation is in charge of Maria José Rebocho, cardiologist and member of the AADIC Scientific Technical Council. This event is supported by AstraZeneca and is broadcast exclusively on the association's Facebook page and YouTube channel.
The PORTHOS study traveled the country to assess and record the number of people suffering from heart failure, with the aim of updating data on the prevalence of the disease in the Portuguese population, where the last people were already over 20 years old. Their results revealed that more than 700,000 Portuguese over the age of fifty suffer from heart failure, and that 90% of them do not know that they have the syndrome.
Taking into account the alarming results of the study, a webinar was held entitled “Heart failure in Portugal – how many of us?” It aims to discuss how to understand epidemiology better and thus design better clinical decisions and health and care policies.
The aim is to understand what needs to be done and what paths to follow to improve the management of heart failure in Portugal. To this end, Cristina Gavina's intervention will focus on the cardiologist's perspective; While Nuno Jacinto's show will focus on the family doctor's point of view. In addition to the medical approach, there will also be space for the patient to give evidence.
At the end of the session, patients, caregivers and the general public who were watching the session will be able to share questions with the speakers.
