Oakland power-pop band The Goods have released their second studio album, Goodbye Summertime, through Dandy Boy Records, expanding their guitar-driven sound with elements of psychedelia, sunshine pop and folk rock.
Released on September 16, 2026, the record follows Don’t Spoil the Fun less than a year after the group’s debut. Led by songwriter Rob Good, the new album moves beyond the band’s established power-pop foundations while retaining the melodies, harmonies and prominent guitar arrangements that defined its earlier material.
The Goods Expand Their Power-Pop Sound
Goodbye Summertime draws on a broad range of styles, including Beatles-influenced psychedelia, Brian Wilson-style balladry, jangle pop, sunshine pop and classic guitar pop.
The album was produced almost entirely by Good at his Oakland studio, where songs were written, recorded, rearranged and rebuilt as the project developed. The approach allowed the band to move between different musical styles rather than following a fixed production formula.
The resulting record combines psychedelic passages and chiming folk-rock guitars with layered harmonies and heavier power-pop arrangements. Mellotron, Wurlitzer and other instrumental textures also feature throughout the album.
Longtime collaborators Cherron Arens, Yea-Ming Chen and Ian McBrayer joined Good during the recording process, contributing additional elements across the LP. The record was mixed and mastered by Bart Thurber.
New Album Reflects Change and Persistence
The themes running through Goodbye Summertime reflect changing places, relationships and stages of life, drawing partly on Good’s years in the San Francisco Bay Area independent music community.
Individual tracks explore those ideas from different perspectives. “Summer’s Almost Gone” focuses on the urgency of appreciating the present, while “Minor Key” addresses a sense of loss.
“Driving” looks back at younger years when having little money, an empty fuel tank and no particular destination could still represent freedom and possibility. “Wing”, another of the album’s key tracks, explores the optimism and uncertainty surrounding new love.
The closing track, “Sleepytime”, uses stacked vocal harmonies and a gradually expanding arrangement to bring the album to a reflective conclusion.
Good said the process of making the record offered a way to work through both difficult and positive experiences.
“There’s some pain in there, but there’s a lot of joy as well, and creating the record was a joyous experience,” says Good. “Ultimately, it’s about persisting through difficult times and finding a way to carry on. That’s what making this record helped me to do.”
European Tour Includes Two UK Shows
Following the album’s release, The Goods are taking the new material on the road with a run of European dates extending into October.
The itinerary begins with a record-release show at Little Hill in El Cerrito, California, before the band heads to Europe. Scheduled stops include Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Dortmund in Germany, as well as Brussels in Belgium.
For UK audiences, The Goods are scheduled to perform at The Prince Albert in Brighton on September 29, followed by Trinity in Harrow on September 30.
The tour then continues through Spain, France and Italy before returning to Germany for a series of dates in Konstanz, Heidelberg, Würzburg, Karlsruhe, Hannover and Leipzig.

The new LP arrives as The Goods seek to build on the momentum of Don’t Spoil the Fun while broadening the musical palette surrounding Good’s songwriting.
