Flu cases in Portugal are increasing across the country, according to the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA).

In a bulletin released today, referring to the week of March 21-27, the INSA reported that there was “influenza activity with an increasing trend” and “widespread epidemic activity”, according to data from the Portuguese Network of Laboratories for Influenza Diagnostics..

According to the bulletin, the incidence of influenza was 22.7 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the rate of acute respiratory infection was 34.1 per 100,000 inhabitants.

In the week that ended last Sunday, three cases of influenza A (subtype AH3) were detected, and an increase in the number of influenza cases was observed, which was detected by the Portuguese Network of Influenza Diagnostic Laboratories (Hospitals), which has been occurring in the past four weeks, and identified 643 positive cases of influenza virus, of which 637 were type A and 2 were type B.

“In 25 cases, subtype A (H3) was identified” and there were fewer cases of infection with other respiratory viruses, says INSA, according to which, to date, there are 65 co-infections with influenza and SARS-CoV-2. (which causes Covid-19 disease).

And about the severity of the cases, the bulletin indicates that three cases of influenza A (influenza A) were reported by 19 intensive care units that sent information, and four other cases of influenza A (H3N2) in the three wards that sent information.
