Outright Games unveils story-driven title aimed at preschool audiences and family gaming market
London-based video games publisher Outright Games has announced Sesame Street: Friends & Fun, a new narrative-led adventure game based on the globally recognised children’s television franchise, as the company continues to expand its portfolio of family-focused interactive entertainment.
The title, developed for young children and designed for up to two players, will launch on 9 October 2026 across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game marks the latest collaboration between children’s media brands and gaming publishers seeking to capitalise on growing demand for accessible family entertainment in the interactive sector.
Revealed on Friday, Sesame Street: Friends & Fun places players in the role of a new resident moving into the famous neighbourhood as preparations begin for a large community celebration. The game combines exploration, customisation and educational mini-games in what Outright Games describes as a “warm, funny, heartfelt story” tailored for preschool-aged players.
Family gaming remains a key growth area
The release highlights the continued commercial appeal of licensed family entertainment properties within the games industry. Outright Games has built its business around adapting well-known children’s brands into console and PC titles, targeting younger audiences and parents seeking age-appropriate gaming experiences.
In Sesame Street: Friends & Fun, players can customise their character and home while interacting with iconic characters including Elmo, Grover, Bert and Ernie. The gameplay centres on exploration of familiar locations inspired by the television series, alongside light challenges and educational activities intended to introduce early maths concepts and problem-solving skills.
The game also includes local two-player co-operative play, allowing parents, siblings and friends to participate together. The company said the title has been specifically designed to provide a safe and accessible introduction to gaming for young children, with simplified controls and positive reinforcement systems.
Outright Games said the focus of the project was to create a low-pressure experience that encourages independent exploration while maintaining the trusted tone associated with the Sesame Street brand.
Sesame Street expands long-running gaming presence
The launch continues Sesame Street’s longstanding presence in interactive entertainment, which dates back more than four decades. The franchise first entered the gaming market in 1981 with Sesame Street: Countdown for the Atari 2600 and has since expanded into console games, digital applications and online educational experiences.
Today, Sesame Street remains one of the most widely recognised children’s media brands globally, reaching more than 300 million households across 190 countries and 30 languages. The franchise has also received more than 250 Emmy Awards since its debut in 1969 and continues to position itself around research-based educational programming.
Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organisation behind the franchise, said its broader strategy continues to focus on combining education, research and media to support early childhood learning internationally.
The partnership with Outright Games reflects a wider industry trend in which entertainment companies are increasingly leveraging interactive formats to deepen audience engagement and extend brand longevity among younger consumers.
Outright Games strengthens position in licensed entertainment market
Founded in 2016, Outright Games has rapidly established itself within the family gaming sector through partnerships with major entertainment companies including Hasbro, Warner Bros., Nickelodeon and NBCUniversal.
Its previous releases include Peppa Pig: World Adventures, DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos, PAW Patrol: Grand Prix and DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of The Nine Realms.
The company has focused heavily on producing games linked to globally recognised intellectual property, an area of the market that has remained comparatively resilient amid broader volatility in the video games industry.
Industry analysts have noted continued demand for family-friendly gaming content as parents increasingly seek entertainment options that combine education, co-operative play and trusted brands.
With Sesame Street: Friends & Fun, Outright Games is positioning itself to benefit from that trend while leveraging one of the world’s most established children’s franchises.
The game will be available from 9 October 2026 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
