The secret behind this apparent power boost is the use of PlayStation Spectral Supersolution (PSSR) upscaling technology. This technology will allow games to appear to run up to 100% faster than on a regular PlayStation 5, even with relatively modest hardware improvements.
Cassells highlights that PSSR will be essential to improving the visual quality of games, reducing blur, and enabling graphical features like ray tracing to be enabled in some titles. However, the Alderon Games founder stresses that the upgrade is not a magic bullet and that developers will continue to face challenges in getting the most out of the additional hardware.
While the CPU and RAM improvements are limited, the increased GPU power of the PlayStation 5 Pro will allow some games to run at higher graphics settings, such as Epic settings, compared to the medium settings of the base model.
