Lotus has launched a new over-the-air software update for its Eletre and Emeya electric vehicles across Europe, introducing performance, safety and usability upgrades as the British carmaker expands the role of software in its premium electric vehicle strategy.

The Coventry-based manufacturer said the update incorporates customer feedback alongside ongoing vehicle development. Key additions include Active Sound Design and Drive Setup, while Eletre customers in Germany gain access to the company’s Lotus Hyper Pilot assisted-driving technology on selected motorway routes.

Lotus Adds Active Sound Design and Personalised Drive Setup

One of the headline additions is Active Sound Design, which gives Eletre and Emeya vehicles an amplified, performance-inspired soundtrack. The vehicle sounds respond dynamically to acceleration, deceleration, driving inputs and selected driving modes.

The system is intended to provide a more immersive driving experience while retaining the characteristics of Lotus’s electric powertrains.

Drive Setup has also been introduced following customer feedback. The feature allows motorists to save frequently used vehicle and driver-assistance preferences and activate them with a single tap, reducing the need to adjust individual settings repeatedly.

The upgrades underline the growing importance of OTA technology to carmakers, allowing manufacturers to introduce new functionality and refine existing systems without requiring customers to visit a dealership.

Safety and Everyday Usability Features Receive Updates

Lotus has introduced improved insulation-fault monitoring across both the Eletre and Emeya. According to the company, the system is designed to detect potential problems earlier, provide earlier warnings and automatically protect vehicle systems where necessary.

The Eletre receives refinements to its fatigue and distraction alert technology. Lotus said the changes are intended to reduce false alerts while maintaining the system’s safety performance.

For the Emeya, the Auto Hold function has also been updated. Drivers can now clearly see when Auto Hold is active, providing additional confirmation of the vehicle’s status during congested and stop-and-go traffic.

Lotus Hyper Pilot Launches for Eletre Drivers in Germany

A significant part of the software release is the introduction of Lotus Hyper Pilot for eligible Eletre customers in Germany.

The assisted-driving technology is currently designed for approved motorway routes along the Frankfurt–Stuttgart–Munich corridor, including sections of Germany’s A3, A5, A8 and A99 autobahns.

Lotus secured UN R171 certification in March 2026, becoming only the second global automotive manufacturer and the first British manufacturer to achieve the certification, according to the company.

Technology Combines Lane Centring and Overtaking Assistance

Lotus Hyper Pilot combines lane centring, adaptive speed control and supervised overtaking assistance. The technology is designed to reduce driver workload during longer motorway journeys, although responsibility for controlling the vehicle remains with the driver at all times.

Access to the feature is subject to several technical requirements. The vehicle must have the Highway Assist Pack and LIDAR Sensor Suite, while active connectivity is required through either the Connectivity Prestige package or an external Wi-Fi network. Drivers must also use active route guidance through the vehicle’s built-in navigation system, and the technology is limited to supported routes.

German customers will additionally be able to use the HNP Premium Package on a complimentary basis during a 12-month window that closes on 29 July 2027.

Lotus Expands Software-Led Ownership Strategy

Qingfeng Feng, CEO, Lotus Group said: “At Lotus, our vehicles continue to evolve long after they leave the showroom. This latest update delivers meaningful enhancements across Eletre and Emeya, from greater personalisation and convenience to new safety and driver-experience improvements. It reflects our commitment to continuously improving our customers’ ownership experience through intelligent software development.”

The rollout demonstrates how Lotus is increasingly using software to extend vehicle capabilities after purchase, a strategy becoming more prominent across the premium electric vehicle market.

Eletre and Emeya customers across Europe will receive a notification when their vehicles become eligible to download and install the latest OTA update. The launch also provides Lotus with an opportunity to gather further real-world feedback as it develops its software and assisted-driving technologies across European markets.
