A senior National Health Service (NHS) official has warned that many hospitals in the UK could be forced to close as staff leave in protest of the government’s order to vaccinate everyone against Covit-19. Chris Hobson, chief executive of NHS Providers, cited the example of a hospital in the UK where 40 midwives refused to be vaccinated, raising fears of a maternity hospital closure.

“As of April, when Covit-19 vaccines became mandatory, the results of non-vaccinated teams could, in extreme cases, jeopardize patient services,” said Chris Hobson. “If a sufficient number of non-vaccinated employees in a particular location-specific service decide not to be vaccinated, the reliability and / or safety of that service may be at risk.”

Without naming the hospital unit, he warned that the maternity case was “a representative example” of possible closures for patient safety reasons, which could be the government’s decision to force NHS staff to be vaccinated. “I spoke with a chief executive who said that 40 midwives in his midwifery service were not ready to be vaccinated.

Maternity workers who resigned from compulsory immunizations due to a shortage of midwives across the NHS have posed a particular challenge, with Hopson – NHS warning that the UK needs 2,000 full-time equivalent midwives in addition to maternity services. At 2,500.
