If you’ve enjoyed searching for Pokémon in recent years in the popular mobile game, you’re sure to enjoy another novelty. Google and Taito have released a new Augmented Reality (AR) game that allows you to eliminate virtual aliens in the real world around you using your phone.

The new game is called Space Invaders: World Defense. This game was created in honor of the 45th anniversary of the original Space Invaders video game. With it, the experience can be very similar to the game you’ve already watched (Pokémon Go). But, of course, it could be much more interesting. Below you can access an embedded video, with the game running.

In the new World Defense game, Space Invaders will appear on buildings and rooftops, hide behind structures and hover in the sky. So, instead of Pokemon, you will catch aliens. Blog post From Google says that players can discover new Space Invaders in various neighborhoods and surrounding areas.

Moreover, players can also unlock special powers, team up with other players and share their achievements on social media using an AR avatar. Yes, this experience sounds better than hunting Pokemon, right?! And of course, since we are talking about a modern game, it can bring significant improvements in the future.

the game

The game uses Google’s ARCore technology, which means you’ll need a device Compatible with ARCore to turn it on. It also uses the company’s geospatial API to bring players’ immediate surroundings, nearby buildings, landscapes, and other architectural elements into the game.

You can download Space Invaders: World Defense on Android right now. iOS will be launched on July 18th at midnight local user time. So, you are very close to getting this experience.

AR technology is set to seep into many technologies in the future, especially with the advent of artificial intelligence and the emergence of the Metaverse. There are many devices being created with this sense, and these “simpler” experiences could be a great start to this not-too-distant future, which blends reality with virtual reality.

This new AR game could be another gateway for AR technology to become an increasing part of people’s reality in their daily lives. Technology has advanced a lot and we are sure that the future holds great things for us.
