Proposal in revision of Benfica's statutes: A dual leadership of accounts will lead to the downfall of the board

Read the letter in full:

Exmo. Mr. Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Rui Costa,
presence. Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Assembly Sport Lisbon e Benfica, Fernando Serra,

Legal Review – Partners Time

1. The signatories to this letter congratulate the management of Sport Lisboa e Benfica for finally making their proposal available for legal review and for setting a timetable for the proposal discussion period.

2- We urge the General Assembly Council to clarify the legal review process, in accordance with Article 81 of this Statute. It is essential that we communicate in a transparent manner the work of the Extraordinary General Assemblies necessary for this purpose, remembering that the history of Sport Lisboa e Benfica corresponds to the individual votes for each proposal and for each article of the Statutes.

3. In order to ensure greater transparency, the Board of Directors must disclose the proposal submitted, in March 2022, by the committee established for this purpose, and must explain the reasons why the Board changed this proposal.

4. We will continue to encourage public discussion of the Board’s proposal and that of the other partners. We will send our proposals to the management, without prejudice, within the framework of our full legal rights, to submit alternative proposals, supported by evidence, for voting at the general meeting to be held for this purpose.

Legal review is vital to the strengthening of democracy in Sport Lisboa e Benfica and deserves from everyone – the management, the General Assembly Board and the partners – a clear and participatory process.

Only then can we proudly sing:

“Benfica is ours and always will be.”

This is the right time for partners.

Long live Sport Lisbon and Benfica! ”
