“The great people of great Ukraine celebrate today a great day: Independence Day! Celebration of a Free People. Holiday of Strong People. Holiday of Deserving People. Holiday of Equal People”Volodymyr Zelensky announced in a press release, marking the 32nd anniversary of the country’s independence.
Zelensky wanted to leave a message of thanks to the soldiers, families, teachers, doctors, nurses and everyone working to “defend Ukraine”.Ukraine’s independence was declared in the Kiev parliament on August 24, 1991, just days after the attempted coup d’état in Russia on August 19, 1991.
Poland and Canada were the first two countries to recognize Ukraine’s independence on December 2, 1991. Russia’s then president, Boris Yeltsin, made the same gesture later that day..
And the celebrations of the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, as in 2022, are taking place without stopping or crowding the streets, taking into account the danger of Russian bombing.
Many heads of state and representatives of countries supporting Ukraine, including the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, are attending the celebrations.
