Young poultry farmers in the South West of England are getting a significant boost with the creation of a Youth Development Award. The initiative, a partnership between the South West Chicken Association and Morspan Construction Ltd, offers financial support to applicants aged 17 to 30 working in the association’s catchment areas, including South West Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

A prize of £2,000 will be awarded to the successful candidate based on a project or learning objective proposed during the application process, which must relate to any aspect of poultry farming. Funds can be used to cover conference, travel or accommodation expenses. The applicant must describe how they intend to use the award to achieve their goal. Additionally, South West Chicken Association team members can provide additional support such as providing contacts and learning opportunities, including visits to various parts of the supply chain.

The interview panel included Robert Lanning, former Poultry World and Devonshire Poultry contributor; Polly Davis of Elango Animal Health; and Donald Gillespie of Morespan. The award winner will be announced at the Southwest Chicken Association Annual Conference on April 29, and the successful candidate must complete their work experience by March 1, 2026.

Additionally, the Southwest Chicken Association has announced that its 36th Annual Trade Show and Convention will be held at a new location on April 29, 2025. The event, which has been held in Congresbury near Bristol for many years, will now take place. at the Sandy Park Convention Center in Exeter.
