It may be shocking and unexpected news for fans, but HBO has decided to cancel Westworld, which aired its first episode in December 2016 and the last in August 2022.

Westworld has 36 episodes over 4 seasons and earned more than 200 award nominations during its journey, emerging as one of the main faces of the HBO streaming service, making the decision even more surprising.

Jonathan Nolan, one of Westworld’s creators, commented in October, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, that the plan was to end the series with season 5, which has always been his goal and desire. We now know that the creators of the series won’t be able to carry out their plan to finish the way they want them to.

The drop in viewership and ratings from Season 2 to Season 3 was even more severe in Season 4, something that may have helped Warner Bros. Discovery decided he didn’t want any more episodes, especially given the cost of Westworld production.

The fan community will now have to debate and try to determine if the final episode of Westworld Season 4 can serve as a finale, something that suits some but not everyone.
