Investing.com – United Kingdom equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the London close, the index was up 0.10%.
The best performers of the session on the index came from stocks JD Sports Fashion plc (LON: ), which was up 4.02% or 4.95 points to trade at 128.15 at the close of trade. Meanwhile, shares of Airtel Africa Plc (LON: ) added 2.90% or 3.20 points to end the day at 113.60 and the shares Kuroda International PLC (LON: ), which was up 2.10% or 81.00 points at the close at 3,943.00.
The worst performers of the session were stocks Severn Trent PLC (LON: ), which declined 2.45% or 62.00 points to trade at 2,470.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:) declined 1.68% or 31.50 points to end at 1849.00 and 3I Group PLC (LON:) declined 1.40% or 45.00 points to 3172.00.
On the London Stock Exchange, 694 advancers outperformed the losers out of 1014, while 761 ended unchanged.
Gold futures for December delivery were down 0.33%, or 8.30, at $2,542.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere, crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.28%, or 0.94, to settle at $72.23 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for delivery in October fell 1.01%, or 0.78, to $76.42 a barrel.
GBP/USD was 0.34% unchanged at 1.31, while EUR/GBP was 0.16% unchanged at 0.85.
The dollar futures index, meanwhile, rose 0.22% to 101.08.
