Unions go on strike against 210 surpluses to be announced by Santander Tota – O Journal Económico

On Friday, Banco Santander Totta will announce before the workers’ committee 210 unilateral layoffs, the unions of bank workers who met today with the executive management of Bank Santander Totta revealed. Unions will continue to strike on 1 October.

O Mais Union, SBN – Financial Sector Workers’ Union, Central Bankers Union (affiliated with the UGT), Synaf (affiliated with CGTP), National Union of Banking Staff and Technicians (SNQTB) and Independent Banking Federation(s), in joint form they say that “in view of The position taken today by the management of Banco Santander Totta (BST) on mass dismissal, in everything similar to what happened in the BCP, the unions of the six bank workers decided to call a simultaneous strike in two banks.”

After the meeting on Thursday of the six unions – SBN, SIB, SBC, SinTAF, SNQTB and Mais Sindicato – with the Executive Committee of Santander Tota Bank, “which once again showed complete indifference towards the workers who did their best for the foundation years and still insist on Moving forward with the mass dismissal of about 210 bank employees, these unions have no other option but to strike,” the statement read.

“Despite all they did to avoid this outcome, never shy away from dialogue and negotiation, and offer alternative solutions at all times, in both BCP and BST, the intransigence of the administrations—and even after they had already reduced some two thousand jobs”—was insurmountable. The unions also clarified that “from now on, the law states that labor committees are legally competent to participate in the current stage of the process, and all questions must be directed to them.”
