The Ukrainian counterattack this morning on the port of Berdyansk, which was practically under the Russian command from the very beginning of the offensive, and the destruction of a Russian ship, are signs that Kyiv was able to regain some lost territory. Commentator Nono Ruggiero explains the significance of this achievement by the Ukrainian Navy.
The port of Berdyansk, which is located about 80 kilometers from the city of Mariupol, has been in the hands of the Russians since February 27, that is, “it was taken practically from the beginning of this invasion”, recalls Nuno Ruggiero.
But last night, that changed. The operation, which the Ukrainians called “New Hope”, began yesterday morning “and aimed at” recovering part of the territory. “And it “had reactions”, from the very beginning, “in Berdyansk, an important port that was practically captured since the beginning of this invasion and is (.. .) is necessary to control the Sea of Azov, which is relatively close – about 80 kilometers – to Mariupol, the city of martyrs. ”
Nuno Ruggiero asserts that “this attack, being a blitzkrieg and being an objective part of the amphibious power of the Russian fleet, either the Azov Secession or the Russian Black Sea Fleet, was extremely important.” .
