By 2023, the number of shared bike rides per day in the UK will increase by 24%. Data collected between September 2022 and September 2023 also reveals that 59% of all bicycle rentals used electric models.
According to the annual report of the national shared transport charity Collaborative Mobility UK (CoMoUK), approximately 25 million bicycle rentals took place over a 12-month period, with an average of 67,565 trips per day. In the immediately preceding interval, between September 2021 and September 2022, the number of shared bicycle contracts was 54,285 trips per day.
According to the survey, the number of electric bicycles available through sharing is more than conventional pedal models. By the end of September 2023, there will be over 25,000 electric models on the road. In 2022, this number will not exceed 12 thousand. This increase increased the number of applications of electric bicycles, reaching 59% of all available models.

As well as analyzing quantitative data from shared bike rides, CoMoUK interviewed cyclists. In total, 1,100 active users were interviewed.
“By providing easier and cheaper access to cycling, these schemes improve people's physical and mental health, reduce the number of cars on the road and reduce carbon emissions,” says Richard Dilks, chief executive of CoMoUK.
Based on data crossing and interviews conducted, the agency also concluded that bicycle sharing programs promoted common use of the mode in cities. In the United Kingdom, 48% of users responded that thanks to sharing, they cycled for the first time this year or for the first time in history.
Among the most common reasons, users said they rented bicycles to get back from work or school; About 39% of the respondents. In second place, connecting to, going to or returning from public transport was used (24% of responses).
According to interviewees, the preference for electric models is due to reduced travel time; 53% of cyclists said they prefer the speed of electrified vehicles. 46% of users who already prefer electric models say they choose e-bikes to avoid fatigue or sweat.
