British Foreign Secretary James Wisely on Monday condemned China’s attempts to intimidate and silence Hong Kong exiles. The approach comes after Hong Kong police decided to offer more than 100,000 euros for information on eight activists overseas.

“The UK will always uphold the universal right to free speech and support those targeted,” Wise said in a statement.

The minister highlighted her opposition to China’s imposition of a national security law on Hong Kong, asserting that its use violates the Sino-British Joint Declaration. Asiatic colony.

Hong Kong is seeking eight former lawyers and activists living in countries including Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. According to the “South China Morning Post”, they are being investigated by local police for cases of “collusion with foreign powers” or “inciting and subverting secession”.

Among them, pro-democracy activist Nathan Law, who left Hong Kong in July 2020 and is now in the United Kingdom, appears on the list.

In 2020, London suspended its extradition treaty with Hong Kong, the National Security Act was passed, and in March 2021 China declared “persistent violations” of the Sino-British Declaration.

In the same year, the British government announced a new type of visa, allowing nearly three million Hong Kongers and their families to live and work in the United Kingdom, with 166,420 using it as of March this year. From Ministry of Home Affairs.
