LONDON, Aug. 17 (EFE) .- The UK Pharmaceuticals and Health Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) said on Tuesday it has approved the use of the Covit-19 vaccine made by Moderna in adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17.

Although the British regulator has already authorized children to be vaccinated with Pfizer / BioNtech, the UK government has not yet begun vaccinating children under the age of 16 without special risk factors.

In the UK, adolescents between the ages of 16 and 17 will be vaccinated from the 23rd before the start of the next school year.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Health “welcomed” the regulator’s approval for the modern vaccine and said it would be guided by the recommendations of an expert panel advising the government on vaccinating children under 12 years of age.

The Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunization (JCVI), which makes recommendations to the government, said more data was needed to make a decision on this.

In recent days, the United Kingdom has recorded about 30,000 Govt-19 cases every 24 hours, while 5,894 people are hospitalized across the country, 882 of whom are with mechanical ventilation.

On July 19, the UK lifted all restrictions on the prevention of infections, including the use of masks at home, while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland maintain some of these limits.
