The news was reported by a British newspaper WatchmanQuoting Moroccan media, about an event that occurred today, Tuesday.

According to this information, Bilal Kissi and Abdelali Marchour, both French and Moroccan nationals, were attacked after they took a wrong turn in the coastal resort of Saidia in far northeastern Morocco, Moroccan news website Le360 reported, citing a witness.

The same website stated that the Algerian Coast Guard arrested a third man, Ismail Snape, who is also French of Moroccan origin, and appeared before the court on Wednesday.

There were four guys in the group on Tuesday, all of them surfing.

“We lost our way, but we continued until we found ourselves in Algeria,” said Mohamed Kissi, one of the survivors and Bilal Kissi’s brother, according to the Moroccan Omak website. “We knew we were in Algeria because a black Algerian boat approached us,” he said, “and those on board “shot at us.”

“Thank God I was not injured, but they killed my brother and my friend. They arrested my other friend,” he added. “Five bullets hit my brother and friend. My other friend was shot,” Casey was quoted as saying.

“We got lost and ran out of fuel,” he said, adding that he was rescued by the Moroccan navy and returned to the anchorage in Saidia.

The incident occurred in the context of growing tensions between Algeria and Morocco, exacerbated by the dispute over the territory of Western Sahara.

The borders between these two North African countries have been closed since 1994, and Algeria severed its relations with Morocco in 2021, after accusing its neighbor of “hostile acts”, an accusation that Morocco described as “totally unjustified”.

Speaking to the Guardian, the Moroccan government spokesman, Mustapha Paytas, refused to comment on the incident, saying only that it was “a matter subject to judicial investigations.”

There were no comments from the Algerian side.
