The judge of the Federal Regional Court for District One, Candido Ribeiro, has decided to release Cuiabá’s former Minister of Health, Celio Rodríguez da Silva, who was arrested before trial for alleged involvement in a scheme moving around R$100 million, between the years 2019 to 2021, from Municipal Health Cuiaba.

The investigative judge accepted the defense’s request for an unlawful restriction due to the arrest of the former secretary.

For the judge, there is, at present, no glimpse of possible criminal liability, as this part of the investigation is prohibited. Brief prison decisions based on assumptions, and at times repeating conclusions reached in representing police authority, cannot be condoned, without diminishing the presentation of a concrete, factual position that indicates and justifies the need for apartheid between the patient.

  • The International Justice Organization has ordered a BRL 46 million ban from the former health minister and others investigated for fraud and money laundering.
  • Ex-secretary and two other suspects arrested for corruption and money laundering with diverted health resources into machine translation and public relations

However, the judge considered it necessary to take some precautionary measures other than imprisonment, to make sure Sileo was connected to the operation and to avoid the risk of the accused escaping.

The judge ordered to collect the passport; Prohibited trips of more than 10 days without permission and Célio will not be able to stay in contact with others who have been investigated in connection with the health system.

The Federal Police arrested Cuiaba’s former Minister of Health, Celio Rodriguez on October 28 during Operation Copincha, the second phase of Operation Kerari, in July this year, which investigates corruption and money laundering, including the diversion of public resources earmarked for health.

In Curitiba (PR), businessman Paulo Roberto de Sousa Jamor, who will be Celio’s partner, was arrested.

In the first stage of the operation, Sileo was relieved of the post of Minister of Health.

Judge Jefferson Schneider, of the Fifth Federal Criminal Court of Federal Justice in Mato Grosso, said that from at least from 2021 onwards, the former D.C. Health Minister and former Director General of Empresa Cuyabana de Said, Celio Rodríguez da Silva; his wife, Joany Costa de Deus; “Orange” Liandro Ventura da Silva and businessman Paulo Roberto de Sousa Jamor concealed and concealed the nature, origin, movement and ownership of fraudulently obtained goods.
