Trees, head-to-toe pants and lots of denim: ModaLisboa's most eye-catching looks

From denim looks to ill-fitting outfits. There was a little bit of everything among the crowd who flocked to the Pátio da Galé.

Even the rain that fell on the afternoon of Saturday 9 March could not stop an area full of diversity in Patio da Gali, next to Terrero do Paco, in Lisbon. With options ranging from the exotic to the glamorous, the 63rd edition of ModaLisboa has once again brought together enthusiasts from different fields, with a common passion: fashion.

From designers to influencers, including students who are now embarking on this world where creativity has no limits, all looks are thought out to the smallest detail. – Ignorance remains the key word at the biggest national fashion event.

After a timid arrival, the venue began to fill with an audience characterized by increasingly young faces. Many take advantage of this event to showcase some of their creativity. Some created their own looks, while others raided friends and family's closets to create different outfits using some borrowed pieces.

Pátio da Galé was dominated by denim, black and red colours. Another trend that has emerged is unusual and alternative pairings. If pants were previously worn on the legs, some decided to innovate and wear them on the head, as a top piece or instead of socks. Others chose to wear a skirt over their heads or a jacket as a skirt.

After all, “fashion is also about playing with clothes,” said Tomas Almeida, the 19-year-old student who was present at this edition of ModaLisboa — and stood out precisely because he had a skirt on his head, an idea that came about “just by chance.” “But it turned out perfect.”

Melina Barros, who also joined the trend, appeared at the event wearing head-to-toe pants. literally. The 24-year-old, who studied communications and fashion design, showed off a look from her brand R3WORKED, which will launch its first collection before the summer. The concept is “to give a new use to parts that would otherwise have finished their life cycle.” From old pants he managed to make a skirt, a top and even a travel bag.

Tradition says that the best (and worst) action is off the catwalk. NiT recorded some of the street style looks that marked the second day of this edition. Click on the gallery to see them.
