MElissa McCabe, now 16, gave birth to her son Arthur in November 2020.
The young woman from Tranmere, England, who was criticized by her former classmates, is now able to complete her studies and thus, as she puts it, is proving all those who rejected her at Ridgway High School that they were wrong.
The young woman, who is accumulating her studies under the care of her son, recently finished the subjects of animal care, economics, tourism and travel, and finished her school day.
“When I found out I was pregnant, I feared my only option would be to leave school to take care of Arthur. I decided to continue studying and I am so glad I did. I am very proud of myself and my results. There will always be a little voice in my head that says I could have done a job,” says the young woman. “Better, but honestly I’ve worked hard to get to this point.”
Melissa wants to change the stigma that young people who give birth early have no future and says that when she joined the Health and Social Assistance course her goal was to ensure she had a successful future for herself and her son.
“I had a teacher who once told me I would never make it [terminar os estudos]. “For him to prove otherwise was amazing,” he says.
