The family-sized tents being flown to Egypt are aimed at the growing number of people and families displaced by the military invasion and bombing of Israeli territory in response to the October 7 Hamas attacks.
The move coincides with British Foreign Secretary David Cameron's visit to the region on Wednesday, where he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The level of suffering in Gaza is unimaginable. More must be done to help those caught in this dire situation, and must be done faster. We have tripled our aid to Gaza, and the cooperation of partners like Qatar is helping,” he said. Quoted in a report.
According to the British Foreign Office, available information suggests that 90% of people in northern Gaza eat less than one meal a day.
Cameron said he told Netanyahu it was “necessary for more trucks to enter Gaza and for more crossing points to be opened”.
“We need an immediate humanitarian pause to allow aid and hostages to leave, followed by a sustainable ceasefire, without a return to hostilities”, he stressed.
The diplomatic chief urged Tel Aviv to allow the Israeli port of Ashdod Gaza to receive humanitarian aid and open access to Kerem Shalom.
The UK recommends increasing aid flows to Gaza through extended humanitarian pauses, opening entry routes and fully restoring water, fuel and electricity supplies.
On Wednesday, David Cameron met with Foreign Minister Israel Katz, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and Minister Benny Kantz in Jerusalem, along with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
After a stop in Qatar on Thursday, the minister will travel to Turkey, where Turkish government leaders are expected to discuss regional destabilization and forms of cooperation to allow the safe return of Israeli hostages still held by Hamas.
Hamas says more than 25,000 people have been killed in Gaza by Israel.
The attack was in response to attacks by the Palestinian Islamist group on Israeli soil on October 7, which killed around 1,200 people and took 250 hostages.
