The Maria Fumaça, which connects the historic towns of São João del-Rei and Tiradentes and attracts tourists from all over the world, is hosting a special guest this Thursday (23): British Ambassador to Brazil Stephanie Al-Khaq.
The British guest stays with his family and learns about the history of the region. Appointed by King Charles III, she was the first woman to head a British mission in Brazil. The diplomat will visit the train stations and board a specially scheduled tourist train to take him from São João del Rey to Tratentes.
On her Instagram profile, British Ambassador Stephanie Al-Khaq published a post with the following caption: “Excited to come to Minas Gerais and meet new scenery, flavors and people. It was my first time in the state and I wanted to understand why Minas and the miners are so special. Does anyone know how to explain why the Minas Gerais people say that? Or rather: Aha! And I was told that the train is synonymous with everything.
The María Fumasa, the oldest in operation in Brazil, offers a 12km crossing through beautiful ecological diversity and landscapes that still preserve 19th-century architecture.
Marcus Januário, manager of the Trilha dos Inconfidentes Circuit, spoke about the significance of the ambassador’s visit. “Having a diplomat in our region is very important. Spread across our region to the UK, UK and Europe as a whole. This visit will definitely give us more tourism and cultural visibility and attract more investments.
