“Oh “The UK coordinated the largest and most comprehensive evacuation operation from Sudan by any Western country and brought 2,450 people to safety from Sudan,” Foreign Minister James Wise was quoted as saying by Spanish news agency EFE.
The country is focused on “helping those in need of humanitarian assistance” and continues to push for a long-term ceasefire.
According to the British government, the last rescue flight for people seeking to leave Sudan due to insecurity in the African country was destined for Cyprus.
Clashes between the army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have already claimed at least 550 lives, displaced at least 330,000 people inside Sudan and forced more than 100,000 people to flee the country.
Hostilities erupted on April 15 after weeks of tension over reforming the security forces in talks to form a new interim government.
Both forces were behind the joint coup that overthrew Sudan’s interim administration in October 2021.
