A rapid survey of the Aedes aegypti prevalence index, called LIRAa, identified Balneário Cambori as a city with a low risk of dengue, Zika and chikungunya. The survey was conducted in November and released by the Epidemiological Oversight Board for Santa Catarina (DIVE) last Thursday (08).

For 10 days, environmental monitoring personnel have passed through all the neighborhoods of Balneário Camboriú to collect samples, based on them, to reach the conclusion of places where mosquitoes are common. A percentage of each neighborhood is determined by the demarcation of the analyzed blocks. In this way they reach the city index in a short time.

We are among the 112 municipalities in the state that are classified as low risk. However, with the arrival of summer’s sweltering heat and heavy rains, we must redouble our care regarding the Aedes aegypti mosquito,” says Eliane Geddes, director of environmental monitoring at Balneário Cambori.

Currently, the city has 1,163 mosquito outbreaks. In the case of dengue, there are 110 purebred cases, 122 unspecified cases, 24 imported cases and nine non-residents. There is also a case record of non-resident chikungunya in the municipality.

Part of Aedes aegypti prevention: care when using dishes on potted plants, keeping trash cans clean, cleaning gutters and pools and any other practice that can generate standing water buildup.

Environmental monitoring personnel conduct neighborhood checks on a daily basis, with the goal of educating residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. It is important to note that agents are always properly dressed for proper identification by residents. The team responds to complaints to the Municipal Ombudsman, by phone (47) 3267-7024, 0800644 3388, or WhatsApp (47) 99982-1979.
