On Saturday, the Centro Português de Fotografia, in Porto, opened the exhibition “The Comedy Wildlife,” featuring nearly 150 images awarded by the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards that show the funniest side of wild animals.
The photographic exhibition, promoted by Terra Esplêndida in Portugal, features, among many other species, “a smiling fish, a singing monkey, an angry tortoise, a super squirrel, and a clumsy lion,” the organization reported in a statement.
In addition to amusing and causing smiles, “these images and the species represented here are also a way to inform us of the extraordinary diversity of life on our planet, and to alert us to the grave crisis it is in.”
The Comedy Wildlife Award was created in 2015 by wildlife photographers Tom Sullam and Paul Joynson-Hicks, who have made it their mission to “draw attention to conservation in a unique way: through humour.”
The exhibition will be on display at the Portuguese Photographic Center until October 29, and part of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the Portuguese Society for the Study of Ornithology (SPEA).
