The British plane was named ‘Kittyhawk’, a term reserved for any military aircraft carrying Queen Elizabeth II.

At one time the most attention-grabbing plane on top of the podium took US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan in August, with 2.2 million people watching the plane’s flight.

FlyRadar 24 says it tried to make its online site as stable as possible before the plane took off with the remains of the British monarch, anticipating high user traffic. Even so, the aerial observatory admits that the “big peak” recorded on Tuesday was “more than we expected”.

“Even though our platform suffers from very heavy traffic, Queen Elizabeth II’s final flight from Edinburgh to Royal Air Force Base Northolt is the most viewed flight ever on Flightradar24 and will remain at the top for a long time”, explains Flightradar24 itself.
