The Municipal Health Network promotes syphilis control measures

The third Saturday of October – on the fifteenth of this year – has been designated as the National Day for the Control of Syphilis and Congenital Syphilis, and aims to encourage the participation of health professionals and managers in the activities commemorating this day, with the aim of emphasizing the importance of proper diagnosis and treatment of syphilis in pregnant women. Throughout the year, the Department of Health maintains distribution of condoms across the city and supports diagnosis by offering screening and monitoring of all diagnosed cases, as well as prescribing treatment.

Data from the Municipal Health Department shows an increase in cases of acquired syphilis in 2021 in Jaragua do Sul. 225 cases of acquired syphilis in patients residing in the city were registered in the Reportable Diseases Information System (Sinan), which exceeds the total number of cases registered in 2020 by 95.6%.

The Director of Epidemiological Surveillance, Talita Piccoli Sevegnani, informed that all essential health units in the municipality are conducting a rapid test for syphilis, which is ready in a few minutes. “It is important to prevent as well as test and treat potential cases. We are even developing a campaign with that focus right now.” In addition to UBS, Jaraguá do Sul has a Test and Counseling Center (CTA), located on Rua Jorge Czerniewicz, number 800, in Bairro Czerniewicz (upstairs from the former Pama I), with free ordering for express exams.
