Mayor Bruno Cunha of Lima received, on Saturday, 8, the Minister of Health, Dr. Marcelo Quiroga, as part of the polio vaccination campaign.

The minister, who is a cardiologist, continued vaccinations in two basic health units in the Aloysio Campos housing complex and vaccinated some children.

Marcelo Quiroga spoke about the emergence of new cases of the disease. “The decrease in vaccine coverage is something that has been recognized worldwide, not just in Brazil. This is due to the fact that people have lost their fear of the disease, which has been eradicated in the Americas since 1994. The last case was recorded here in the state of Paraíba. The minister explained that the other reason is that during the pandemic, the coverage of other vaccines has decreased, and the supply of vaccines has also decreased because initially there was a breakdown in the supply.

Talk about the campaign and make an appeal to residents. “We are working hard. Since August 7, the Federal Government has started a campaign that lasted until September 30 and now until October 30. There are 22 vaccines available in our immunization programme. I want to appeal to mothers, fathers and officials to bring their children,” the minister said.

Campina Grande reached more than 70% of children aged 1 to 4 years who were vaccinated with the polio campaign dose. Target 95%.

“Campina Grande plays an important role in the northeastern region and is a reference for Paraíba and today we have a young leadership that is doing an excellent job. So we will continue to focus the work in Campina Grande on healthcare, but also on other important policies. As this city is progressive, it is investing,” he said. in development.
