The Department of Health, through the Endemic Diseases Program, is instructing residents that in addition to the preventive measures to control the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that have already been adopted, it is also necessary to use an insect repellent. With the surge in the number of dengue cases, Health Surveillance Director, Ariane Fisher, says this is also an alternative to avoiding mosquito bites.

Repellent for children between six months to two years

Repellent for children from the age of two to seven years

– Icaridin 20 – 25% – for 10 hours, apply twice a day.
– Infant DEET 6 – 9% – Duration 4-6 hours, apply twice a day.

Repellent for children from the age of seven years

Those that contain one of the following substances in their formula:
– Icaridin 20 – 25% – for 10 hours, apply up to three times a day.
– DEET infants 6 – 9% – Duration 4-6 hours, apply up to three times a day.
– IR3535 – duration of up to four hours, applied up to three times a day.

Repellent for adults, the elderly and pregnant women

Those that contain one of the following substances in their formula:
– ICARIDIN 20 – 25% – for 10 hours, apply up to three times a day.
DEET 10 – 15% Duration 6 – 8 hours, apply up to three times a day.
– IR3535 – duration of up to four hours, applied up to three times a day.

Importance

Insect repellent cannot be placed under clothing. Apply the product only to exposed areas.
Do not use it more than three times a day. It can cause poisoning.
If using moisturizer or sunscreen, wait for it to dry and then apply insect repellent 15 minutes after using these products. Insect repellents are always used last.
– Do not apply near eyes, nose and mouth. Wash your hands after use.
– Do not apply to children’s hands. They can take the product to their mouth.
– Don’t sleep with repellents. Take a shower to remove the product before bed.
Scientific studies have shown that 20-25% Icardine provides greater protection against Aedes aegypti than DEET 6-9%.
