British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty saw their wealth grow by 23% last year, driven by a revaluation of Murty’s stake in Infosys, a company founded by his father, and Sunak’s personal investments.

According to the Sunday Times list of the richest Britons, the couple now have an estimated fortune of £651 million (€760 million), a significant increase on the £529 million estimated the previous year.

The rise in the value of Infosys shares contributed mainly to this increase, with the value of Murty’s shares rising by around £110m (€128m), to a total of £590m (€687m).

Despite the growth, the total value of the couple’s wealth is still less than £730 million in 2022, which puts them in 245th place on the list of the richest Britons.

The London newspaper also highlighted that Sunak and Morty are the richest people to occupy No. 10 Downing Street.

However, Sunak’s growing wealth has also come under criticism, especially in light of his political stance. He earned £2.2m (€2.5m) in the 2022-2023 financial year, 60 times more than the average UK salary. While his salary as Prime Minister represents only 6.5% of this amount, the majority of his income comes from investment profits.
