The municipality of São Paulo has sent an application to the Ministry of Health for permission to expand the application of additional doses of the Covid vaccine in three new groups:

  • Fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine for health professionals of all age groups;
  • 4th dose for people aged 50 to 59 with comorbidities;
  • The third dose (or the first additional dose) for all adolescents aged 12 to 17 years.

A letter of request was sent to the federal government on May 19, but no response.

According to the municipal administration, the request takes into account the trend of an increase in positivity in rapid tests, which last week recorded 2% in the 14th epidemiological week (from 3 to 9 April), and 12.7% in the 20th epidemiological week (from 15 to 21 May).

The Municipal Health Department claims to be equipped with vaccines and supplies, and is awaiting the opinion of the National Immunization Plan (PNI) to start the new phase of immunization.

Outbreak of cases in major SP

This week, municipalities of at least five cities in greater Sao Paulo began recommending that students return to wearing protective masks against COVID-19 in municipal schools.

  • After the Covid outbreak, three public schools suspended classes and resumed remote teaching in SP

In the cities of Carrapequipa, Boa, Santo André, São Bernardo do Campo and São Caetano do Sul, reference was made again to the use of masks in the open and closed environments of educational institutions.

In Santo André, masks were distributed to a public school this Tuesday (24). The concern is the recent outbreak of Covid-19 among children.

At a municipal school in Villa Sa, where there are about 500 students, 11 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the month of May alone.

On Monday, the state recorded (23) a moving average of 2435 new cases of Covid-19 virus per day, in addition to 35 deaths from the disease per day.

The number of cases shows a declining trend and is 44% lower than the number verified 14 days ago. The total number of deaths is on an upward trend, with an increase of 69% at 14 days.
