They studied the same course (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) at the same university (Oxford). Both are married with two daughters, five years of life and five years of experience in the House of Commons separate them. Rishi Sunak was elected in 2015; Liz Truss has been on the Conservative Party bench since 2010. For more than two years they were colleagues in Johnson’s cabinet, until Sunak resigned from the finance ministry, knocking on the door and prompting the prime minister’s resignation.

Within two weeks, Sunak and Truss seem to have forgotten their past relationship. They had tense moments in televised debates, canceling their presence in one of them, and will face each other again on Monday, on the BBC, and on August 4, on Sky. These are the two names on the ballot which will reach the mailboxes of 175,000 Tory activists from August 1 (0.30% of the British public will choose the next tenant of 10 Downing Street). Till then the former Finance Minister and External Affairs Minister will be touring the country seeking support. You can vote online and by mail until September 2. The result will be declared on 5th.
