Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton spoke to Mariana Becker about another case of racism involving Vinnie Jr, during an interview in Monaco. The pilot immediately dismissed the positions: “It was devastating to think that, in 2023, we would still be seeing and hearing these things.”

Asked if he had really suffered acts of racism during his Formula 1 career, Hamilton recalled the difficult times he had on the tracks.

“It really hits me, it brings the emotions. The things I went through brought back to the UK when I was racing in Italy, France or Spain.”

Returning to the Brazilian situation, the British highlighted Vinicius Junior’s courage and stance at a time when racist crimes returned to the fore, after several attacks during the European season.

“The things people say can hurt, but I think, first and foremost, he was incredibly brave. I think it’s amazing what some of these people who are testing this in the field are doing in terms of a durable, powerful, powerful tool. Being humble in Your style, not to be reactive, but to be responsible when they step forward, because they know there are a lot of kids watching.”

Lewis Hamilton also said that sport should be more active in combating instances of discrimination. Finally, he wished to return to Brazil to offer his support in person.

“There is no room for discrimination in today’s society. Sport should do more, we should all do more, and if we see it, we should do something about it. But I hope that at some point I can come to Brazil and offer support,” he concluded.
