My name is Thiago Ribeiro, and today I am here to share with you the difficult struggle I am going through. I was recently diagnosed with a tumor of the spinal cord and a rare disease of the spinal cord called dorsal thoracic arachnoidosis. Not only do these conditions affect my physical health, but they also affect my quality of life greatly.
I work as a freelance designer and due to severe pain I am unable to work.
The pain I feel is severe and continuous, and it affects my ability to eat, sleep, and do daily activities. In addition, the disease affected my movements, causing my legs to fail repeatedly and me to fall to the ground. It’s a very difficult situation, and I feel very vulnerable.
To treat these conditions, urgent surgery is necessary. However, the cost of the surgery is quite high, costing between R$30,000.00 and R$45,000.00. Unfortunately, our health care system does not cover this type of procedure, which means I cannot afford these myself.
If the surgery is not done urgently, there is a great risk that I will lose my mobility permanently. This is a frightening prospect, and I feel very anxious about the future.
