The village of Salto de Castro in Spain, which has not been inhabited for more than three decades, is up for sale for 260,000 euros. It is located in the municipality of Funferia, in the province of Zamora, just 20 kilometers from the border town of Miranda do Douro.
Villa for sale in Site “Idealista”, it was built to receive the families of the workers who built the Castro Dam. Due to the relocation of staff and the Civil Guard post that guarded the embankments, it was abandoned in 1989. Since then it has been completely uninhabited.
In the village, there were 44 houses, a tavern, a church, and a school, as described in the estate advertisement. In addition, it had a hostel with 14 rooms, a cafeteria, a laundry, a tank, a swimming pool and a gym.
The village belongs to a group of businessmen who bought it in the beginning of 2000 from the Spanish electricity company Iberdrola. The goal was to turn the area into a tourist area, but due to the 2008 crisis, the plans were canceled, according to Spanish newspapers.
According to the previous owners, it will be necessary to invest about two million euros to rehabilitate the entire village.
