The vaccination of a medical student in João Pessoa in January of this year, long before this public was allowed to vaccinate, sparked controversy, mainly because he is the son of Arnaldo Correia de Medeiros, head of the ministry’s health monitoring secretariat. Health since June last year. Daniel Freire de Medeiros is 21 and a student in the eighth term of his medical course. He took the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine on January 28 and the second dose on April 28 of this year, but, at least officially, only students in the health field were vaccinated by the municipality of João Pessoa on May 5.

Data on Daniel’s vaccination dates can be found on the João Pessoa City Hall transparency portal. The detail is that he appears in the report as a “doctor” and not as a student.

Daniel, who was searched by G1, said that he was traveling from Fortaleza to Joao Pessoa, halfway through, so he had no way to speak at that moment, due to the interference in the cell phone signal. Shortly thereafter, he sent a message from the Ministry of Health via a chat app, stating that he is an intern at Hospital São Vicente de Paulo, in the capital of Paraíba, and that “academics and students in the technical field of health in the training hospital” are included in the National Vaccine Operation Plan against Covid-19 . The memo also notes that his classification as a physician was a “typo.”

In addition, the student sent a copy of a statement from the Hospital of São Vicente de Paolo stating that Daniel participated in the “Observer Training Program in General Surgery” at the hospital.

The municipality of João Pessoa was also searched. Fernando Fergulino, head of the immunization department, claimed that Daniel’s case is not a “gay smash” case. According to him, the vaccination of medical students who worked in hospitals began in January, but stopped after a court decision, based on a procedure from the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Paraíba, that prevented this public from vaccinating before the elderly up to 60 years old. fortified.

Fernando considers Daniel’s case to have occurred prior to this decision, so his case cannot be constituted as an infringement.

Despite what the city says, the mass vaccination of health students, even those who have worked in hospitals, only began in May.
