Cases of monkeypox (monkeypox) in Sorocaba have decreased since the second half of August 2022. Information is from the Ministry of Health, which confirmed last month that the disease is stabilizing with a downward trend across Brazil. In the municipality, the first case was registered on July 22 this year and until August 17 the total number was 22. More than a month later, the city has so far recorded 25 confirmed cases of monkeypox, so in the last 50 days there have been only three new cases.

No deaths from the disease have been recorded, according to Sorocaba City Council. According to the data, of the 25 confirmed cases, 20 were in men and five were in women, with an average age of 30 years. Of this total, 14 people have recovered and 11 are quarantined at home. “There are four suspected cases and there is no cure,” he said.

Despite the drop in cases, the current administration stated that the flow of care in the city is taking place in all public and private health units in the municipality. “All of them have specialized training for this, as well as appropriate examination collection materials. Surveillance of the suspect/confirmed is done through epidemiological surveillance (VE), in accordance with national and international protocol, for a period of 21 days,” he explained.

For those who test positive, the recommended procedure is to maintain isolation until the crusts are gone and the skin has healed completely, without the need for a new test. The most common symptoms are transdermal lesions. swollen lymph nodes, also known as lumps; Headache; Chills and weakness.

Monkeys are not evil

Public health officials have also warned that transmission occurs between people, mainly in intimate and sexual contact. Swimming monkeys have something to do with the disease, as they can also be victims. To prevent this from happening, it is important not to come into contact with suspected or contaminated people, always keep your hands sterile, and not share clothing, towels, cutlery, or other personal items.
