Several Banco CTT customers were left with no money in their accounts, after a computer attack on a fake page purporting to be the institution’s official page.
The bank, led by Luis Pereira Coutinho, has infected users with several thousand euros, justifying the situation as a “phishing scheme”, for which it is not responsible. However, customers demand compensation for losses.
On December 19, when trying to make a transfer, Rosa Fonseca, a Banco CTT customer, came across a checking account with zeros and a €2,600 transfer made from the secondary account, where the money was from the main account and the customer had her parents. assets.
Another victim, Vanessa, admitted that the situation “continued for at least a week and that the bank did not send any contact to customers or alerts” and did not provide information on the phone or at the counter about what had happened.
“There was clearly a security breach,” Vanessa told CNN when she pointed out that Banco CTT did nothing to protect customers.
The banking entity will not record any security breach on the digital platforms, which indicates that the attack will be outside the company. Within two weeks, several thousand euros were withdrawn from CTT Bank, information that the Public Ministry already has access to and that should be investigated.
