Food plays a fundamental role in maintaining health and can contribute significantly to the prevention and even treatment of various diseases. It is not surprising that the study conducted by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public HealthIt concluded that following a healthy diet in middle age increases the chances of living a mature life with a better quality of life by up to 84%.

According to functional clinical nutritionist Dr. Gisela Savioli, foods have an amazing ability to prevent and support treatments as well. For her, they are the true champions of our health and what we put on our plates can change our lives.

However, the expert warns that no single food can combat chronic inflammation or an existing disease, but science already knows that food choices are essential to protect the body, strengthen the immune system and leave it better prepared to face health problems.

“Most health problems today are caused by chronic inflammation, which is also influenced by poor dietary choices, and when chronic inflammation is present in the body, depending on each person, the apparent impact can vary depending on which organs are most at risk. Such as diabetes, joint pain, stomach problems such as reflux, insomnia, and even cardiovascular disease, in addition to anxiety, depression and Alzheimer’s.”

Therefore, nutritionists emphasize that good nutrition is the basis of all health maintenance and recovery, but some foods, which have more specific anti-inflammatory actions, can be indicated for health problems, pain and discomfort. Below, I have listed six foods that can help combat these problems.

insomnia

If you suffer from insomnia, eat two kiwis at night, around 6 p.m. The fruit is rich in phytomelatonin, which helps induce sleep in a more natural way, as it comes from the plant and melatonin is the name of the antioxidant hormone that we produce when we are mainly asleep.

chronic fatigue

If you feel chronically tired, Gisela recommends eating watermelon, a fruit rich in water, and she also recommends eating the white part of the watermelon, between the pulp and the peel, as it is rich in citrulline, which has vasodilating properties, which are responsible for boosting your energy. One tip is to make watermelon juice with cinnamon.

Dull skin and hair loss

If your skin is dry and your hair is falling out more than usual, include cabbage in your menu. This green leaf is rich in magnesium and is able to improve the intestines, providing an improvement in the intestinal microflora, in addition to providing vitamins for hair, skin and nails.

Detox

Orange consumption in natureWith that white part we call the pomace, it is ideal for detoxifying the body. “The curious fact is that the orange was used with the pomace in Chernobyl to help flush toxic metals out of the population. Among the oranges, the one with the whitest part is the Bahia orange,” comments Gisela.

trapped intestine

For those suffering from constipation, the advice is to eat apples – preferably Fuji apples – cooked after meals. The fruit is an excellent source of fiber that keeps your bowels running like clockwork.

Joint pain

In case of joint pain, eat pineapple, especially the pulp, which is the hardest part of the fruit. This part is rich in bromelain, a substance that dissolves the protein called fibrin, the excess of which causes joint pain. Another recommended fruit is papaya, which contains papain that performs the same function.
