According to a decree signed today by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which covers the United States and the European Union, a special account will be opened in the name of the holders of these rights in authorized banks to receive the amount required for use in rubles. for intellectual property or trademark.

This action will be mandatory if the rights holder “publicly supported the sanctions imposed on Russia or, in compliance with them, the ban on the use of its trademarks and patents registered in Russia after February 23”. The Russian military attack on Ukraine began on February 24.

This also applies to those who have “suspended, suspended or significantly limited the production or supply of goods or services in Russia in order to implement sanctions or for other reasons not related to economic expediency,” as stated in the decree.

This measure does not apply to the import and production of medicines, medical equipment, industrial and agricultural products, food and communication services in Russia, among others.

On March 8, the Russian government adopted the list of hostile countries and territories, which includes the United States, Canada, all member states of the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Montenegro, Switzerland, Albania, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino and Macedonia North, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Micronesia, New Zealand, Singapore and Taiwan.
