The state of Rio de Janeiro recorded a decrease in the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the twentieth epidemiological week of the year, between May 16 and 22. And deaths are down 25% from the 18th epidemiological week, which runs from May 2 to May 8.

When comparing the two periods, there was also a decrease in hospitalizations for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SRAG), a complication whose high incidence since last year is due to COVID-19. The household occupancy rate decreased by 21%.

The data is in the new risk map released today (11) by the State Department of Health (SES-RJ). Given the numbers, the volume has kept the orange tick, which means moderate risk.

There was also no change in the classification of any area. Only Norte Fluminense appears on the yellow flag, with low risk. The other eight regions are at medium or high risk. Metropolitan District 1, covering the capital and Baixada Fluminense, is classified under a red flag, with high risk.

The map is used to assist general managers in decision-making and serves as a reference for the adoption of restrictive measures. According to SES-RJ, across the state, 83% of beds in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 56% of beds on the ward are occupied.
