Production stopped after the invasion of Ukraine. The decision goes in the opposite direction of other major companies, which are severing ties with Moscow

Unlike many car manufacturers – Such as VolkswagenAnd BMW, Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Honda – Renault decided to resume production in Russia. It is reported that since the invasion of Ukraine, about a month ago, Moscow has suffered from a stampede of dozens of companies from the most diverse sectors.

However, the French company, which halted production at the Russian plant about a month ago, due to alleged logistical problems after the invasion of Ukraine, decided on Monday to return to work. according to The Guardian newspaperThis decision was supported by the French government.

Already Reuters He points out that sources close to the company confirmed that the administration met about 10 days ago to study different options, after it decided, at least for the time being, to maintain its presence in Russia. Renault Duster, Captur, Arkana and Nissan Terrano are car models produced by Renault in Moscow.

Since 2016, Renault owns two-thirds, about 67%, of AvtoVAZ, Russia’s largest automaker. Now, that means it has more operations in Russia than most other European countries. The company has 40,000 workers in Russia alone.

AvtoVAZ sold nearly 2,900 cars last year, giving Renault a pre-tax profit of 186 million euros.
