Promised updates to Windows 11 in 2023

Microsoft planning to launch New features every few months in a series of feature releases for Windows 11.

The first of these launches took place in October, with Windows 11 version 22H2, an update that added, among other news, tabs to File Explorer.

In this mode, the frequency of updates should be more fluid. Here’s a preview of what we can expect next year:

Windows 11 Moment 2

This update is expected to arrive between February and March 2023. The news at this point will mainly focus on touch screens and tablets.

The new Windows Tablet Mode taskbar will provide a streamlined interface, similar in appearance to the one first introduced in Windows 10X.

In cases where Windows detects a touch screen instead of a keyboard or mouse, the taskbar will be minimized to provide additional space for running applications.

Users will be able to swipe up on the taskbar to access both installed and running apps, which are designed with larger buttons for fingertip ease of use.

The system tray will also undergo significant changes, as it will be rewritten from scratch. Its new design will be more consistent with the Windows 11 interface and the overflow button can be disabled if not used.

Other news that will arrive with Windows 11 Moment 2 will be new options built into the search bar, search engine integration in Task Manager, display of power recommendations in the Settings app, as well as other improvements related to the widget panel and voice control.

Windows 11 Moment 3

In late spring or early summer, between May and June, we should see the arrival of the third moment of Windows 11.

Although it’s too early to speculate in detail about what this update will contain, Zac Bowden, author of the aforementioned report, notes that Microsoft is working on initial improvements intended for foldable PCs, both single-screen and dual-screen.

In addition to refining the operating system interface for these cases, this moment will also address Windows search and other native applications, such as the Mail and Calendar applications, which will eventually be replaced by the Outlook web client, which has not yet improved its functionality. Third party services.

In addition, this update will address the renewal of old items not only from Windows 10, but from Windows 8 and Windows 7 as well.

Windows 11 23H2 Moment 4

Despite Microsoft’s current focus on these partial updates, the company remains committed to releasing an annual feature update for Windows 11.

This means that Windows 11 23H2 will be released in the fall, most likely in September or October, which will include new features and an extension of its support cycle.

However, according to Bowden, while the 23H2 update is supposed to be a full system update, there’s a chance we could see it arrive in the form of a moment.

It takes time to know for sure what Microsoft’s steps will be in this regard, but the aforementioned report speculates that we could even see the fourth moment parallel release of Windows 11 along with a full update.
