The International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed that 45% of Portuguese companies intend to increase their investment in information technology by more than 10% in 2023, in order to respond to challenges and take advantage of opportunities.

Overall, IDC estimates that technology investment in Portugal will grow by 4.7% in 2023 and reach €5.4 billion. This conclusion was presented at IDC FutureScape 2023, one of the major IDC events in Portugal, held at the Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon.

Last year, 64% of companies invested less than 20% of their IT budget in digital transformation, but by 2025, 55% of companies expect to invest more than 20% of their IT budget in digital transformation.

This increase is mainly due to the increase in the weight of digital in the business of organizations, while in 2022 only 23% of organizations reported that 40% of their revenue came from digital products, services and experiences, in 2025 this number will increase to 34%.

Regarding the impact of the digital skills gap, 34% of companies believe it can reduce an organization’s work by up to 20%.

Sustainability is also covered in this year’s edition of IDC FutureScape. Organizations are more aware of the environmental footprint of their technologies and are therefore turning to new tools to achieve goals. In 2023, 44% of Portuguese companies say they will increase investment (by 10%) in digital initiatives and sustainable technologies.
