Health, safety, education, environment, infrastructure, civil defense and urban development are part of the task force that the city of Florianópolis is starting on Wednesday (13) in the Itacoropi, Corrego Grande and agro-districts, the main outbreaks of dengue mosquitoes. Named Operação Fim da Picada, the work aims to mobilize citizens to also be agents of the fight against the disease. Currently, Florianopolis is recording about 3,500 outbreaks of the disease and there have already been more than 300 cases of the disease since the beginning of the year.

As much as the public authority advises, it is up to every citizen to do their part to stop this epidemic. Based on the emergency decree, in addition to educational measures, we will be able to enter places that maintain favorable conditions for the spread of mosquitoes, even if there is no cooperation from the owner, ”said Mayor Topazio Neto.

In addition, according to the mayor, the operation will include activities in schools, day care centers, health centers and community councils in neighborhoods where the situation is most serious. “We need to be strict in measures, including fines, so that we do not have to face a new health crisis with an impact on all sectors,” the mayor said.

The first action will be taken in an abandoned dwelling in Itakorubi, the object of numerous complaints from neighbors, but even then, the inspection could not enter. “We will be present with categorical measures, not only on private property, but, as is already the case, in public places such as squares and cemeteries,” the mayor continues.

Priscilla Valer, Director of Health Surveillance in the municipality, explains that in addition to the resistance of many residents to receiving endemic disease agents’ visits and following the guidelines for controlling mosquitoes, factors such as the climate issue (rainfall), abandoned land and its properties and cultivation of bromeliads are among those that led to the increased incidence ill. About 60% of Aedes aegypti outbreaks occur in homes. That is why this massive mobilization is so important to educate the population that today is resistant to receiving the visit of endemic agents and to follow the guidelines to control the spread of mosquitoes,” he says.
