“It’s great to be back in Australia” – Djokovic on return after deportation

Follow live updates from the men’s Australian Open semi-final as Novak Djokovic takes on Tommy Paul. Djokovic is the favorite to reach Sunday’s final – where he will face winner Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Serbian has won all nine of his previous semi-final matches in Melbourne, while American Paul is playing in his first Grand Slam semi-final.

Djokovic is in fine form as he continues his bid for a 10th Australian Open and 22nd Grand Slam title, but the 35-year-old was drawn into further controversy in Melbourne after his father was photographed posing with Vladimir Putin supporters on Wednesday.

Serjan Djokovic has insisted he unintentionally participated in the pro-Russian demonstration, but decided not to attend his son’s semi-final match. Djokovic has yet to comment on the incident that followed his straight-sets win over Andrei Rublev in the quarter-finals.

Tsitsipas is in his first Australian Open final after the Greek beat Karen Khachanov 7-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the previous semi-final. Tsitsipas is in excellent form in Melbourne and was beaten in straight sets in another Grand Slam final, by Djokovic at the 2021 French Open.
